File # 2023-32287

The Nanaimo RCMP is looking for witnesses and any dash cam video of a recent motorcycle crash that sent an adult man to hospital with serious life-threatening injuries. The crash occurred at approximately 1 PM on Thursday September 14, 2023, on the Nanaimo Parkway, in the northbound  lanes, just north of the exit ramp leading to Parksville and Campbell River.

Police, Fire and BCEHS responded. Investigators spoke with two witnesses to the crash. Both said the vehicles involved, a white pick-up truck and a red motorcycle, were both proceeding northbound along the Parkway. At one point, the driver of the pick-up initiated a lane change. The motorcyclist veered to the left to avoid a collision and in doing so, lost control of his motorcycle and ended up coming to a rest in the nearby ditch. Both witnesses were unable to provide a plate, make or model for the pick-up truck which continued going northbound.

The victim was treated at scene then transported to the Nanaimo hospital for treatment where he currently remains. It is possible that the driver of the pick-up did not see the motorcycle that was travelling beside them. Having said that, we need to speak with the driver and obtain their version of events, said R/ Cst Gary O’Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP.

Police are also asking for any motorist who were driving in the area between 12:45 PM and 1:15 PM on September 14th to please check their dash cam video. If you have any information on this incident and have not already spoken with police, please contact the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345.
