Police investigating shooting

An adult man was taken to hospital with serious injuries following an early morning shooting. The incident occurred at approximately 2 AM on Friday December 9, 2022, at a residence located in the 2300 block of Bowen Road.

Police and EHS responded. Investigators were on scene within minutes and located the victim with an apparent gun shot injury. Attending officers applied emergency first aid until such time EHS arrived, and transported the 34-year victim to the Nanaimo hospital.

At this time, due to the condition of the victim, investigators are unable to provide a description of the suspects or the vehicle they fled in. Police believe though based on information gathered to date, this was a targeted isolated incident and that there is no further risk to the public ,said R/Cst Gary O’Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP.

The home has been secured by officers to allow time for forensic specialists to examine the scene.

Investigators are asking for anyone who saw a vehicle driving in the vicinity of the 2300 block of Bowen Road around the time of the shooting, or have information on the incident, to please call the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345, and quote file # 2022-42988.
