Unsolved case- Police seek to identify assault suspect

Suspect in assault at Thrifty's

The Nanaimo RCMP is asking for the public’s assistance in solving an assault from July of 2022. At approximately 6 PM on Saturday July 23, 2022, the individual, shown in the attached photo, is alleged to have assaulted another man at Thrifty Foods, located in the Port Place Mall .The allegation was investigated however it did not result in a suspect being identified. The investigator is hoping that by releasing the image to the public, the suspect will be identified.

Witnesses told police the suspect man had cut in front of an elderly person who was waiting in the line up to pay for groceries. Another man in the same line witnessed this and expressed his displeasure to the individual. The suspect appeared to take exception to being called out for his behavior, and initiated a physical altercation with the other man. The victim was punched in the head several times. The suspect fled before police arrived and was not located. The victim did not require medical treatment for the assault.

The still photo of the suspect was obtained from CCTV camera and is a true resemblance of the individual who was involved in the altercation.
