File # 2022-34510

When Chelsea, last name withheld, reported her wallet lost to the Nanaimo RCMP, she had zero expectations it and her $1000 would ever be found. She told the police she lost the wallet Thursday evening September 29, 2022, either in the parking lot of Walmart or while driving home to her north end home.

Upon arriving home and realizing her wallet was no where to be found, Chelsea jumped in her car and with the help of her roommate, they scoured the parking lot of Walmart then drove back and forth along the route they took but to no avail.

Unbeknownst to her, the next afternoon, Dan from Nanoose Bay (as he likes to call himself) happened to be driving the same route along Highway 19A that Chelsea drove. At one point, when traffic slowed, Dan happened to glance out of his window and saw what appeared to be a wallet lying next to highway barrier. He couldn’t stop and get out as traffic was heavy so after dropping his wife off at an appointment, he decided to drive back to and check it out.

After parking his car to the side of the road then finding a break in traffic, he ran out across two lanes of traffic to where he last saw the wallet. Sure enough, the item was a wallet and upon closer inspection, it contained a lot of money! Dan quickly scooped it up then drove to the Nanaimo RCMP detachment and turned it in.

Minutes later Chelsea was called and notified of the find; within the hour she was reunited with her wallet and cash. With Dan’s permission, the investigator gave Dan's phone number to Chelsea. The two then had a private heartfelt conversation.

It’s just wonderful that there are people in our community like Dan from Nanoose Bay, who are willing to take the time and effort to do the right thing. Our hats go off to him. We are also very pleased that Chelsea was reunited with her hard earned cash and her wallet. Overall it was a good day, said R/Constable Gary O’Brien.
