Body discovered in house fire

The Nanaimo RCMP is investigating the discovery of a body found in a south end home that was destroyed by fire. The fire was reported at approximately 5 PM on Thursday August 11, 2022, and occurred at a home on Athletic St.

City of Nanaimo fire crews were first on scene after black smoke was reported billowing from windows in the home. Fire crews managed to contain the fire to the home and within forty minutes, the blaze had been extinguished. Crews then entered the home and located a deceased adult male. The discovery of the body is deemed suspicious and has been turned over to the Nanaimo RCMP Serious Crime Section for investigation.
