Charges laid following weekend stabbing

One count of Aggravated Assault has been laid in connection with a stabbing that sent an adult man to hospital with serious injuries. The incident occurred at approximately 9:30 AM on Sunday August 14, 2022 in the vicinity of the Port Place Mall.

Attending officers found the victim, a 27-year-old man, with apparent stab wounds to his head. Police and then EHS provided emergency first aid. The victim remains in the Nanaimo hospital and his condition is considered stable. The suspect, a 51-year-old woman, was located a short distance from the victim and arrested without incident.

Kimberly Lewis of Nanaimo has been remanded in police custody until August 23, 2022. Investigators are now tasked with attempting to understand why this happened and if there was an conflict between the two that may have precipitated the incident, said Constable Gary O’Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP.
