Anti-Graffiti Program
Graffiti is the defacement of property without permission and is a criminal offence.
Even small amounts of graffiti encourage more graffiti and can be the catalyst for other crimes. Illegal graffiti impacts property owners, businesses, and communities financially, while also having a significant negative impact on the social wellbeing of our neighbourhoods. Through collaboration with the City of Burnaby’s Anti-Graffiti program we work to enhance public safety and keep our communities free of illegal graffiti.
How to reduce and prevent graffiti:
- Report any graffiti in progress through 911. Do not approach anyone actively vandalizing with graffiti.
- Report any new graffiti through the City of Burnaby’s online graffiti reporting system.
- Immediately remove new graffiti from your property. Rapid removal of graffiti eliminates the reward to the vandal and makes their return less likely. There are many products available on the market to remove graffiti yourself or you can contact a professional graffiti removal company for their assistance.
- Follow CPTED (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design) principals on areas likely to invite graffiti. (for example, remove items that obstruct visibility, install motion lighting, create artistic murals, etc.)
