Tri-Cities Speed Watch

Program information

Tri-Cities Speed Watch is a partnership between the Coquitlam RCMP, Port Moody Police, ICBC and the local communities that promote road safety.

How does Speed Watch work?

Does Speed Watch help?

Research shows that Speed Watch does work. Over 70 percent of drivers travelling more than 10km/h over the speed limit slow down when they see a speed reader board.

Speeding is involved in 82 deaths every year and is the leading cause of crash fatalities in B.C. The faster you go, the longer it takes to stop – and the more dangerous a crash can be.

You need time to see and react before your brakes take effect and slow down. In ideal conditions, it takes 18 metres when driving 30 km/h to come to a complete stop, 76 metres, when driving at 80 km/h and 126 metres when travelling at 110 km/hr.
