Auxiliaries are uniformed but unarmed and serve as sworn peace officers supporting the staff and regular members of the Coquitlam RCMP. The Auxiliary Program is one of the most intensive volunteer programs we run.

Before they are sworn in and eligible to wear the uniform, Auxiliary applicants go through a rigorous security clearance process and complete 160 hours of training covering topics like;

After successfully completing training and passing written and practical exams, new Auxiliaries are sworn in as peace officers at a ceremony attended by family, friends and Coquitlam RCMP team members.

After graduation, each Auxiliary must log 160 volunteer hours each year for two years to stay in good standing in the program.  It isn’t hard for auxiliaries to accumulate hours because their specialized skills and training are in high demand for duties such as:

Auxiliaries also get the opportunity to create special projects that make use of their unique skills and interests to support the Coquitlam RCMP’s policing priorities.

It sounds like a big commitment. And it is. But every one of our active Auxiliaries would say the rewards are worth it. Many of them are planning careers in law enforcement or the justice system and more than a few are currently civilian staff with the Coquitlam RCMP.
