In early December, BC Highway Patrol was alerted to a video posted to social media in which a commercial truck was seen passing other vehicles on a curve, across double-solid lines and approaching the crest of a hill on Highway 5A between Princeton and Highway 97C.

BC Highway Patrol in Keremeos initiated an investigation and worked with officers from the Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement (CVSE) branch of the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure to identify the trucking company and take enforcement action where evidence supported it.

Today, BC Highway Patrol can announce that, as a result of this parallel investigation with CVSE, the trucking company has been identified and its National Safety Code certificate has been suspended pending an audit of the company’s operations nation-wide, affecting 171 trucks.

BC Highway Patrol urges all commercial truckers to exercise extreme caution on British Columbia’s highways at all times, especially during poor winter driving conditions. Carry and use chains when required, drive according to weather and road conditions and please slow down – don’t sacrifice safety for speed! Remember, if you are involved in a collision on some of our remote highways, First Responders have to travel to you through the same (at times) poor conditions to assist you – a wait that will seem like an eternity if you are in need of medical attention.

During these unprecedented times, Highway 3 remains the vital link from the Lower Mainland to points east, says Chief Superintendent Holly Turton, Officer in Charge of BC Highway Patrol. Thankfully, this situation won’t be forever and I urge all motorists to be patient and exercise caution so everyone can reach their destination safely this holiday season.

Essential travel restrictions are still in place on Highway 3 and drivers can visit the Province’s website for more information.
