Intelligence led policing
Intelligence-led policing acknowledges that research and analysis and evidence-based decision-making are critical to effective and efficient policing (and problem solving). Under intelligence-led policing, reliable and timely crime analysis becomes one of the fundamental drivers in the mobilization of both police and community resources (i.e., proactively targeting enforcement, investigation and prevention measures around habitual offenders, high crime areas, and crime causation factors).
Intelligence applies to both the tactical and strategic levels, and when used properly, can help not only identify patterns and linkages (the who, when and where of crime) to assist in solving investigations or predicting and preventing future crime, but also to understand the relationship between crime and community (i.e., the complex social and environmental issues that underlie many community crime and safety problems) so that we can assist in mobilizing community resources towards an effective response.
