Charge laid in Abbotsford IHIT investigation

A man has been charged following the deployment of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) to Abbotsford. 


On July 18, 2023, at 7:06 a.m., the Abbotsford Police Department (AbbyPD) were notified a suspicious death in the 31000-block of Madiera Place, in Abbotsford. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 62-year old man, later identified as Imtiaz Hussain of Abbotsford, deceased. As a result of evidence obtained by the investigators, a 46-year old man was arrested and taken into custody. IHIT took conduct of the investigation and continues to work closely in partnership with AbbyPD and the BC Coroners Service.

On July 19, 2023, 46-year old Chanchal Badwal of Abbotsford, the man arrested on July 19, 2023, was charged in relation to the homicide.

This was an isolated incident between two men known to each other, says Sgt. Timothy Pierotti, of IHIT. We are asking anyone with recent contact with Mr. Hussain or Mr. Badwal to contact police immediately.
