File # 2022-1229

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) continue to investigate a shooting in Richmond that left one man dead and one in critical condition.

Background:

On October 2, 2022, at 11:03 p.m., the Richmond RCMP received multiple 911 calls of shots fired in the 8000-block of Sunnymede Crescent, Richmond. Officers attended the scene and located two men suffering from gun shot wounds. Both men were transported to local hospitals where one was confirmed deceased, while the other remains in critical condition. IHIT took conduct of the scene and continues to work closely with the Richmond RCMP, the BC Coroners Service, the Integrated Police Dog Service (IPDS) and the Integrated Forensic Identification Services (IFIS).

A day later, on October 3, at 7:30 a.m. Surrey RCMP received a call of a burnt vehicle in the 17000-block of 92 Avenue, Surrey. IHIT has taken conduct of the scene and is working to determine if it is connected to the homicide.

IHIT investigators are now identifying the deceased victim as 21 year-old Shemar Jack of Toronto, in the hopes of furthering their investigation. Investigators believe this to be a targeted shooting in connection to the Lower Mainland Gang Conflict and are working with their partners to determine Jack’s connection to the area.

Investigators continue to canvass both scenes for witnesses and video. If you have information and have yet to speak to police, please contact IHIT, says Sergeant Timothy Pierotti of IHIT. If you have a vehicle with a dash camera, please check to see if it has any recordings. Some vehicle cameras record, even while the engine is off.

IHIT is asking any witnesses or anyone who was in the 8100-block of Sunnymere Crescent, Richmond, between 10:00 p.m. and 12:00 a.m. on October 2, or the 17000-block of 92 Avenue, Surrey, on October 3, between 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. with dash-camera video to contact the IHIT Information Line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
