On February 20, 2024 at 7:58am, the Fort St John RCMP received a report of a 3 vehicle motor vehicle collision in the area of Shepherd’s Inn on the Alaska Highway 97, with vehicles blocking the highway.
Fort St John RCMP frontline police officers attended, along with Fort St John Fire Services and BC Ambulance Services.
The investigation revealed a southbound vehicle that was fully stopped, attempting to make a left hand turn, had been rear-ended by a second vehicle. The rear-ended vehicle was pushed over to the shoulder while the vehicle that hit it spun and blocked the highway. Two other vehicles, one southbound and one northbound, had gone into the ditch on either side of the highway to avoid the collision but also sustained damage.

Three individuals were transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The highway was down to one lane alternating traffic until the vehicles were cleared and the highway was reopened.
