Prohibited firearm seized during traffic stop

On December 20, 2024 at 2:44am, a Fort St John RCMP frontline police officer conducted a proactive traffic stop with a vehicle on the 10800 block of Alaska Road North, in Fort St John, believed to have been involved in a recent flight from police.
During the investigation, the suspected driver that allegedly recently fled from police was located in the vehicle. The man was arrested for the recent flight from police and on outstanding warrants.

A loaded sawed-off shotgun was located in the vehicle. The man is facing multiple new firearms charges as a result and the vehicle was impounded.
A proactive traffic stop by one of our officers, led to the seizure of prohibited weapon and keeping our community safer," said Constable Chad Neustaeter, Media Relations Officer for the Fort St John RCMP.
Kelly Shular remains in police custody until he can be brought before a judge on these matters.
New charges include:
- Careless storage of a firearm,
- Possess prohibited firearm without registration certificate,
- Occupy a vehicle knowing there was a prohibited firearm in the vehicle,
- Possess a loaded prohibited firearm without authorization,
- Possess prohibited firearm knowing that he was not the older of a license,
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order and,
- 2 counts of Possess a firearm while prohibited.
Warrant charges include:
- 2 counts Drive while prohibited MVA,
- Flight from police,
- Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle,
- Fail to comply with Probation Order.
