From January 15 to 21 Lake Country Detachment responded to 56 calls for service. Some of the highlights from those calls are as follows.

File 2024-2764

January 15 While parked and monitoring traffic speeds a vehicle was observed swerving in and out of traffic while it travelled at a high rate of speed. The Vehicle was found to be travelling 165 km/hr in a posted 90km/hr zone South of Lake Country. The Lake Country officer caught up to the grey Volkswagon Tiguan and attempted to pull it over. The driver accelerated and began driving dangerously, putting everyone in the area at risk as they fled. The officer found this an unacceptable risk to the public and allowed the vehicle to flee, however not before the plate was obtained. A violation ticket was issued the registered owner from Salmon Arm area. 

File 2024-2787

January 16 A lake country officer pulled a vehicle over travelling at 150 km/hr in a 90 km/hr zone on Hwy 97 near Commonwealth Rd. When the vehicle stopped the officer observed movement in the front and watched as the driver and passenger switched seats. This obviously piqued the officer’s interest. It was the found the male driver, who was now in the passenger seat was a prohibited from driving. As a result, the passenger, who was the driver, was arrested and released with a court date. He also received a violation ticket for excessive speed and his mother’s BMW was impounded for 7 days. The female, who was now in the driver seat was warned that her actions could be seen as obstructing a police officer which is a separate criminal code offence that she could have been arrested for. 

File 2024-3077

January 18 A pick up truck was stolen from the 300 block of Bottom Wood Lake Rd. The vehicle was found in Kelowna later in the evening. Officers set up surveillance and the vehicle began to move. The vehicle was observed driving in a very erratic manner. When the truck stopped a male was taken into custody nearby and released a short time. The vehicle was returned to the owner with a broken ignition. Matter is still under investigation. 

File 2024-3358

January 19 at approximately 11:00 pm while at a local gas station and convenience store in the 9700 block of Hwy 97 an officer observed a male walking out of the convenience store. This male was known to be on a curfew and was to be in his house at this time of night. The male was arrested for breaching his release order and released at his residence with a court date.

Lake Country RCMP continue to receive reports of phone call frauds. On January 18 a caller claiming to be from Amazon was reporting that there was fraudulent activity on the recipient person’s account. The caller convinced the individual to download apps on their phone which gave the caller control of the device and access to banking information. The fraudulent caller made several withdrawals from the person’s account using this new access. This was reported to the victim’s bank and police and both agencies are investigating. Please remember no reputable company will ask for personal information such as drivers’ license number, SIN number or ask that you add unknown apps. Please report any questionable or fraudulent activity to Canada Anti Fraud www. antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca
