On May 31st 2023, at approximately 07:20am, Port Alberni RCMP, Port Alberni Fire Department, and BC Ambulance responded to a pedestrian struck by a vehicle at the corner of 16th Avenue and Redford Street. The male pedestrian was transported to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Several witnesses were present and interviewed by the initial attending officers. The adjoining streets were blocked off the while RCMP Traffic Services completed their investigation.

We want to remind drivers to watch their speed and be vigilant about pedestrians. We want pedestrians to be vigilant as well, even when they have the right of way, says Cst. James Wingfield.

This matter is still under investigation.
