The 3rd annual Guns and Hoses charity hockey match played out in front a packed arena on January 21st, 2023, and raised almost $12,000 for Honour Ranch, a charity that provides mental health support to first responders and military personnel.
On January 21st, 2023, the local police and fire fighters fought for bragging rights (and a shiny trophy) on the ice at Ashcroft’s Drylands Arena. Even though the hosers won the day by a score of 5-3, fun was had by all in front of a packed audience.
The event itself raised over $10,000 through donations, raffles, 30/70 draws, and the puck toss. The RCMP union, the National Police Federation, made a $1500 donation before the game through the NPF Benevolent Fund, and $490 was gifted through online donations.
In total, $11,990 was raised to support Honour Ranch through the event
, said Constable Richard Wright, Ashcroft RCMP.
I have been in the Ashcroft community for almost two years now and I continue to be amazed by the kindness and community spirit I see every day. Guns and Hoses will be back in 2024 and we will continue to build this event for the community and to support worthy causes.
A further $6000 was raised by the Lions Club and Tim Hortons through the Smile Cookie program and Hon. Col. Al DeGenova, president of Honour House Society, was present at the event to see personally the generous spirit our community had on display.
Ashcroft RCMP invited Ashcroft Fire Chief Josh White to provide comment for this press release, but were met with only a wry smile as White gleefully polished his trophy. Next year, Josh. Next year!
