Impaired Driving

Over the last week, members on proactive patrol did two road checks with drivers suspected of being impaired. In both cases, driver’s breath samples into screening devices showed FAIL, resulting members issuing 90-day driving prohibitions and impounding vehicles. In a third instance, an impaired driver was already prohibited from driving, and this driver was arrested and later released with documents for a future court date. All checks involved local drivers.

2023-99 - Collision involving pedestrian

On January 6, 2023, the driver of a pickup truck was traveling north at a slow speed in a dark area on Laurelwood near Channel Rd. and hit a pedestrian wearing dark clothing. Police and BC Ambulance responded, and the pedestrian did not have any visible or reported injuries and was taken to hospital as a precaution to get checked.

23-0082 Arson

On January 5, 2022, just before noon, police received a call to assist Fire Rescue with a fire alarm call in the 37800 block of Third Ave. The investigation revealed the fire was purposefully set by a man who was recently evicted from the building. Police arrested the man and released him with a future court date.

2023-0038 – Threats

On January 3, 2022, at about 9:30 a.m., a group of men standing roadside saw a pickup truck speeding in a school zone. One from the group threw his hands up at the pickup driver who then stopped and made threats with an object and tried unsuccessfully to punch one of the men before driving off and hitting one of the group members with his pickup’s mirror. Police arrested the man and released him with a future court date.
