Kitimat RCMP weekly report December 8th to December 14th 2022

Erratic driver spinning donuts:

During the evening of December 8th, 2022, the Kitimat RCMP were advised of a driving
complaint. It was reported that a pick-up truck was doing donuts in a parking lot on the 1400
block of Kingfisher Ave, in Kitimat. Although it seems fun, and is believed to be a good winter
training exercise, the Kitimat RCMP would like to remind people of the dangers of driving a
vehicle in such a manner. A person could be issued a violation ticket for stunting and the
vehicle could be impounded or 7 days. If a collision occurs, or someone gets injured, the
penalties could be very severe.

Intoxicated driver:

Just after midnight on December 10th, 2022, a vehicle was being operated in a manner that
caught the attention of a Kitimat RCMP police officer on patrol. A traffic stop was initiated and
while speaking to the driver, an investigation into impaired driving was started. The driver was
found to have been driving after drinking alcohol. A 90-day immediate roadside driving
prohibition was issued and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

Check stop:

On December 10th, during the late evening, Kitimat RCMP members conducted a check stop on
highway 37 near Forest Ave. About 60 vehicles were checked and no impaired drivers were
found. However, several drivers were reminded about appropriate snow clearing from license
plates. The Kitimat RCMP would like to remind people to take the extra time to clear snow
from their lights, license plates, windows, roofs and hoods/trunks.

Walking on highway:

At approximately 2000 hours, on December 11th, 2022, the Kitimat RCMP were advised of a
person, dressed all in black clothing, walking along Highway 37, North of Kitimat. It was very
dark with snow falling, making the person hard to see. The person was advised about a bus
available in the morning and opted to not walk any further along the highway but rather stay
overnight in Kitimat and get a ride on the bus the following day. Please remember that it stays
dark late into the morning and gets dark very early in the evening this time of the year. Dress in
clothing that can be seen and when you are driving, pay extra attention to watch for pedestrians.

Traffic compliant leads to driving suspension:

A concerned citizen driving south on Highway 37 contacted the Kitimat RCMP on the
afternoon of December 13th, 2022. It was reported that a vehicle was driving along the highway
but driving in a manner that was concerning. A vehicle description and license plate was
provided. The vehicle was located by Kitimat RCMP officers and the driver was found to have
been intoxicated. The driver was given a 90-day immediate e roadside driving prohibition and
the vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
