Shotgun found outside apartment complex

On Friday, December 9, 2022, at 7:27 p.m. a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer responded to a report of guitar case containing a shotgun located outside of an apartment building on Brookside Road, in Fruitvale, BC. An officer attended the location and seized the shotgun. The officer arrested the alleged owner, a 27-year-old Fruitvale man, who had left the shotgun outside of an apartment building accidently while he went to watch a local hockey game. The officer later released him on several conditions. As part of his release conditions, the man turned over two additional rifles, two crossbows, and ammunition to the investigating officer.

Trail RCMP will forward a report to Crown Counsel recommending criminal charges against the 27-year-old Fruitvale man.

Watch alerts police about possible motor vehicle incident

On Saturday, December 10, 2022, at 9:53 a.m. a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer received an emergency alert from a smart watch which stated that its owner had been in a severe car accident, in Rossland, BC. The GPS coordinates were provided as part of the message to police. Officers and EHS conducted extensive patrols for the alleged motor vehicle incident; however, the search turned up empty. Additionally, first responders did not receive a report of a motor vehicle incident in the Rossland area.

RCMP officers later learnt that there is a new feature offering automatic alerts from cell phones and smart watches when a motor vehicle incident is detected. The investigating officers concluded that someone may have fallen while skiing at the local resort and the fall triggered the severe car accident alert.

Please be aware if your cell phone and smart watch provide this service, and notify the police if it triggered accidently.

Assault with a weapon in downtown Trail

On Sunday, December 11, 2022, at 9:50 a.m. frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officers responded to a report of a 19-year-old Trail man choking a 49-year-old Trail man with a chain in the 1500 block of Bay Avenue, in Trail, BC. The 19-year-old Trail man fled the area after the attack.

Later that evening, officers located and arrested the man without incident. The man was released on several conditions and a future court date.

Trail RCMP will recommend to Crown Counsel that one count of Assault with a Weapon contrary to Section 267 of the Criminal Code be laid against the 19-year-old Trail man.

On Sunday, December 11, 2022, a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer received a report about a vehicle being sprayed painted with a phallic symbol, also known as a tag, in the 1400 block of Fifth Avenue, in Trail, BC. Other tags matching the one on the vehicle were located in the area.

The vandalism was believed to have occurred sometime overnight between 7:30 p.m. and 6:15 a.m.
Trail and Greater District RCMP ask anyone who witness this incident or knows the identity of the vandal to contact the Trail Detachment at 250-364-2566 to speak to an investigator.

The Grinch stole Christmas, and the show!

On Saturday, December 10, 2022, at 5:30 p.m. frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer responded to a report of a furry green suspect in a red suit stealing the show at City of Trail’s Santa Parade, in East Trail, BC. The officer conducted surveillance of a well-known Grinch but was unable to stop him from stealing candy and throwing snowballs at parade onlookers.

The Grinch disappeared at the end of the night and is believed to be planning to steal Christmas in the Trail and Greater District area. Trail RCMP asks the public to report on sightings of a green furry man dressed as Santa with a small dog dressed a Rudolph pulling a large sleigh.
