Kitimat RCMP weekly report November 24th to November 30th, 2022

Windy intruder:

During an exceptionally gusty early morning of November 24th, 2022, The Kitimat RCMP received a report of a possible break and enter into a shed. Officers attended to ensure there was no one in the shed. It was confirmed to be unoccupied, and there was nothing missing or disturbed. It was believed that the gusty wind may have blown the door open.

1 impaired driver, 1 refusal to provide a sample:

While on routine patrol in the downtown area, early in the morning of November 25th, 2022, a Kitimat RCMP officer noticed a vehicle driving erratically. A traffic stop was conducted and an investigation into the impaired opera ration of a vehicle was started. It was found that the driver had been consuming alcohol and was served a 90-day driving prohibition. The vehicle was impounded for 30 days as well. Another vehicle was noted to be driving in an erratic fashion less then an hour later. During the traffic stop, an investigation into impaired driving was also instigated. The driver refused to provide a valid sample into an approved screening device. As a result, this driver was also issued a 90-day driving prohibition and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

Found/returned property:

On November 25th, 2022, the Kitimat RCMP was advised of a phone and wallet that had been found on the 200 block of City Centre in Kitimat BC. The owner of the wallet and phone was located and attended to retrieve the items.

Nicky Nicky 9 doors:

It was reported to the Kitimat RCMP, during the evening of November 26th, that a group of kids were partaking in the age-old game of Nicky Nicky 9 doors. The complainant advised that a group of kids had rang his door bell and ran off the property before the door could be answered. Patrols for the group were made, however they were not located.

Impaired driver:

November 28th, 2022 during the early evening, a police officer conducting random patrols observed a vehicle running near on the 100 block of Loganberry St. The officer performed a traffic stop, and while speaking to the driver noticed open alcohol containers in the vehicle. The officer screened the driver for intoxication by alcohol and the driver blew a WARN, declining a second test. The driver was issued a 3-day driving prohibition and the vehicle was also towed and impounded.

Check stop:

During the evening of November 28th, the Kitimat RCMP officers conducted a check stop on Highway 37 near Forest Ave, in Kitimat BC. During the check stop, approximately 40 vehicles were checked. One driver was found to have consumed alcohol before driving and was issued a 90-day driving prohibition and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

Check wellbeing:

An out of province complainant contacted the Kitimat RCMP on November 29th, requesting assistance to locate a family member that had come to town for work, but had not had contact for several weeks, which was unusual. The relative was located and advised they were doing well and had been unable to contact home.

Suspicious occurrence:

A concerned home owner contacted the Kitimat RCMP during the very early hours of November 30th, 2022. It was reported that there may have been lights and shadows moving in their back yard, causing an unsettling feeling. The Kitimat RCMP officers attended and investigated the area. There as no signs of people in the area and nothing found out of place in the yard. During the investigation, it was noted that it was an extremely cold and windy night, it was possible the strong winds was blowing the trees more than normal, making extra shadows from the lights and clear skies.

Drinking in public:

During a foot patrol in the downtown core on November 30th, 2022, a Kitimat police officer located a person drinking in public. A violation ticket for consume/possess liquor in a public place was issued to the person drinking. The alcohol was destroyed and the person that had been drinking left the area.
