One man in custody following report of a shooting

The Barriere RCMP arrested one individual following a shooting incident in Westsyde North, near Barriere.

On September 6, 2022, just before 7:00 p.m., Barriere RCMP responded to the 4200 block of Peterson Betts Road after receiving a report of several shots being fired. While responding, another call was received, this time from a male victim who stated someone shot at him and his vehicle with a rifle.

The suspect was quickly identified. As a result, Members from the Clearwater RCMP, Kamloops RCMP, the RCMP Police Dog Services and the Southeast District RCMP Emergency Response Team assisted to locate the suspect’s residence who was subsequently arrested without incident.

It was determined that the victim and the suspect were known to each other and the motive behind the shooting remains under investigation. There is no perceived further risk to the public.
The suspect, a 49-year-old man from Barriere remains in custody.
