On August 9th at 9:26 AM, Quadra RCMP received a request for a check well being at the Morte lake Trailhead on Quadra Island. The complainant was concerned as a man was acting erratically standing next to a stuck vehicle on the trailhead. The man, who was wearing only underpants and a t-shirt,  was using an axe to chop wood. Officers arrived on scene, but the man had since departed. Officers observed that the vehicle was stuck and the man had tried to cut down a tree to help wedge the vehicle out. After much investigation, it was determined that the vehicle was stolen, and the man was acting so erratically because he was upset that he had crashed his stolen vehicle and was panicking to remove it. Officers also located multiple stolen items from other individuals strewn around the parking lot and thrown outside the vehicle. The owner of the vehicle was contacted and was safe and sound. The owner, who didn't know his vehicle was stolen, confirmed he had left his vehicle unlocked with the keys inside. The trail is now open, and there are no safety concerns to the public. The investigation is ongoing.
