Port Alberni RCMP investigating fatal house fire

 On July 13th, 2022 at approximately 01:15 am, Port Alberni RCMP members attended a residence on Beaver Creek Road where the Beaver Creek Fire Department was already responding to a fire their members observed after an unrelated call further down the road. Upon investigating the incident with the Fire Department, a male was located deceased inside the home.

Port Alberni Detachment General Investigation and Forensic Identification Section members attended to assess the circumstances. After thorough examination it was determined the male had succumbed due to a medical condition. The Provincial Coroner’s office was notified and did not attend. The fire had resulted from cooking that was not managed due to the resident’s medical incident. The incident is not considered suspicious and the next of kin of the deceased have been notified.

Their prompt attention prevented a simple incident from becoming complex and spared the family a lot of additional heartache and questions"
