Files of note

Small vessels checks:
Between July 1st and July 3rd, Quadra RCMP conducted multiple boat checks in Drew Harbour. Officers located multiple kayakers without PFDS and other required safety gear. Multiple warnings were given and kayakers found to be without proper safety gear were escorted back to the shore.

Disturbance:
On July 4th, Quadra RCMP received a report of an intoxicated man shooting flares off a boot moored in Heriot Bay. The intoxicated man was located and claimed he was shooting flairs because he was stranded (even though he was very close to the shore), and not feeling well. Due to his level of intoxication and because he was causing such a ruckus for neighbouring boats, the man was arrested and held in cells until sober.

Shots fired:
On the evening of July 4th, multiple complainants reported hearing shots fired in the area of Heriot Bay. Officers attended and located a large group of people who confessed to lighting off bottle rockets. Officers issued a warning and seized the remaining rockets.

Mischief to pump house:
On July 5th, Quadra RCMP received a report of mischief to a pump station near Noble Road. The door had clearly been pried open, however, there was no other damage nor did anything appear to be missing. The matter is still under investigation. If anyone has knowledge of this crime or any other or who is responsible, please contact the Quadra RCMP at 250-285-3631. If you wish to remain anonymous, please call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or visit their web site at www.crimestoppers.ca.

Flight from police/weapons offence:
In the early morning of July 6th, Quadra members were dispatched to assist with a motor vehicle incident in the South end of the island. The complainant advised the driver was acting very oddly and believed something was off. When the responding member arrived on scene, the vehicle was out of the ditch. While members were one scene, the vehicle started driving away without paying the tow driver. The driver then sped into the bush before crashing his vehicle yet again and running away. With the assistance of Police Dog Services out of Courtney, the driver was located. Officers found two guns improperly stored in the truck as well as stolen plates for various vehicles. The man was arrested for possession of a weapon and flight from police. The man, who was not local, was placed on strict conditions to not return to Quadra Island and his vehicle was impounded. The investigation is ongoing. The Quadra RCMP would also like to thank all those involved; including the original complainant who felt the situation was odd and advised the police.

Unwanted drone:
On July 8th, officers were conducting proactive patrols in the ferry terminal when they were advised that there was a drone driving around too close around Quathiaski Cove. Officers located a German film crew that were in Canada filming a documentary about life on Coastal BC. The director confessed he thought he was following Canadian drone regulations, but realized their drone was way too close when the ferry came around the corner. The director and crew apologized and confirmed they were done filming and would be more careful in the future.

Mischief to mooring buoy:
Quadra RCMP received a report of mischief to a private moorage buoy. The complainants reported the certified moorage buoy was from a mooring near Ferry Road/Old Ferry Road and had clearly been cut. If anyone has knowledge of this crime or any other or who is responsible, please contact the Quadra RCMP at 250-285-3631. If you wish to remain anonymous, please call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or visit their web site at www.crimestoppers.ca.
