Commercial alarm

On May 27 2022 at 5:33 pm Kitimat RCMP attended a local business for a report of a panic alarm, an employee inadvertently set the alarm off while cleaning. Confirmed false.

Impaired driver

On May 28 2022 at 12:00 am, Kitimat RCMP observed a vehicle driving eastbound on Alexander Blvd, the vehicle was travelling at a slow rate of speed. Police attempted to effect a traffic stop, the vehicle did not stop for approximately one block after the emergency lights and sirens were engaged. The driver was identified by a valid driver’s licence, and exhibited signs of impairment. A roadside investigation was conducted, resulting in the driver being prohibited from driving for 24 hours.

90 Day immediate roadside suspension

On May 28 2022 Kitimat RCMP received a report of a possible impaired driver near Kechika St. Police were able to locate the suspect vehicle driving north on Kuldo Blvd. Police observed the vehicle swerve lane to lane several times, turning right at Haisla Blvd. A traffic stop was conducted, the lone occupant driver exhibited signs of impairment by alcohol. Police initiated a roadside impaired investigation. After multiple attempts, the driver finally provided a suitable breath sample, resulting in a FAIL. The driver was advised they were prohibited from driving for 90 days, the vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

Commercial alarm

On May 28 2022 at 9:15 am and again at 12:58 pm, Kitimat RCMP received a report of a commercial alarm at a local bank, police attended and determined the bank was secure, with nothing suspicious noted. Deemed false by attendance in both instances.

Prohibited driver

On May 28 2022 at 9:40 pm, Kitimat RCMP officer was on patrol and observed a vehicle with a driver they recognised as being a prohibited driver. Police conducted queries on the police database system and effected a traffic stop on that vehicle. The driver was identified and confirmed to be prohibited from driving, having no licence. Police arrested, chartered and warned the driver for driving while prohibited, the driver was released at scene with documents to attend Court at a later date. The vehicle was driven away by a qualified and licenced driver.

Suspicious activity

On May 30 2022 at 6:28 pm, Kitimat RCMP received a report of possible drugs being used at the bus shelter near the mall. Police attended the area, obtained updated information that indicated it was a different bus shelter in another location. Police conducted extensive patrols with negative result.

Drinking in the parking lot

On May 30 2022 at 7:45 pm, Kitimat RCMP received a report of people drinking in the parking lot of the Kuldo Restaurant. Police attended, the complainant wanted police to speak with the people about drinking in the parking lot. Police obliged, ensuring the group had a designated driver and the group was receptive. Police remind the community that consuming alcohol in public could result in a violation ticket.

Loud music

On May 30 2022 at 8:20 pm, Kitimat RCMP received a complaint of loud music coming from a unit in one of the apartments on Albatross Ave. Police attended, did not hear any music coming from that unit, spoke with the resident who advised they were listening to music while cleaning and turned it down when they received messages from the complainant to turn it down.

Prohibited driver

On May 31 2022 at 11:40 pm, Kitimat RCMP officer on patrol observed a vehicle perform a U-turn at the intersection of Quatsino Blvd and S Lahakas Blvd. Police were able to obtain the licence plate, queries indicated that the registered owner was prohibited from driving. Police conduct a traffic stop, the lone occupant produced an invalid driver’s licence. Police advised the driver that they were prohibited from driving, seizing their drivers licence and impounding the vehicle for 7 days. The driver was released at scene with documents for Court at a later date.

Mischief

On June 1 2022 at 7:05 pm Kitimat RCMP received a report of mischief on Starling St. The complainant reported damage to the garage door that they believed happened sometime over night. The damage was consistent with a tool used in an attempt to gain entry. Nothing was taken.
