The Vernon North Okanagan RCMP is investigating a shooting incident that took place in Vernon on Friday evening.

On Friday, June 3rd, 2022, shortly before 6 p.m., the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP responded to a report of shots fired at a residential building in the 5300-block of 25th Avenue in Vernon. Frontline officers responding to the location found a 38-year old man suffering from gunshot wounds. The victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Vernon North Okanagan RCMP’s Serious Crimes Unit now has conduct of the investigation. The area has been secured and will remain cordoned off as officers conduct their examination of the scene and continue their investigation.

Preliminary findings of the investigation suggest this to be a targeted incident, states Inspector Blake MacLeod, Operations Officer for the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP. The victim is known to police and we do not believe the safety of the public is at risk. We are interested in speaking with anyone who may have witnessed the incident and are asking anyone who may have dash cam footage or surveillance footage in the area to contact police directly and immediately at (250) 545-7171.
