Theft of boat motor

On May 20 2022 the Kitimat RCMP received a report of a boat motor that had been stolen off a boat last week while it was in the Sue Channel. The boat motor is described as a 50 HP valued at $7665. Theft of fishing gear

On May 21 2022 Kitimat RCMP received a report of a theft of fishing gear in Emsley Cove. The complainant explained that their prawn set up was stolen a week ago, and now two steel crab traps were taken between May 19-20 2022. The crab traps do have a name, phone number as well as the boat name Free Spirits engraved on it. Commercial alarm

On May 21 2022 at approximately 2:00pm Kitimat RCMP were dispatched to a commercial alarm at BMO. Police attended, confirmed perimeter to be secure with no disturbance noted. Deemed to be false by attendance.

90 Day immediate roadside prohibition

On May 21 2022 at approximately 3:50pm, Kitimat RCMP officer was on patrol and observed a vehicle exit the Nechako Centre and appear to be speeding, then swerve over into the cyclist lane, swerving back. A traffic stop was conducted, the driver was unable to produce a valid driver’s licence. Police read the Mandatory Demand for a breath sample, the driver acknowledged that they understood the demand and began to gather their belongings from the vehicle in preparation to leave. The driver refused to provide a breath sample, the driver was advised that a refusal carried the same penalty as a fail result. Despite being provided several opportunities they continued to refuse. The driver was advised that they were prohibited from driving for 90 days, the vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

3 Day immediate roadside prohibition

On May 21 2022 at 9:00pm, Kitimat RCMP officer was on patrol near the Dyke Rd when they observed a vehicle leave the roadway when exiting the dyke area. A traffic stop was conducted, police noted a strong odor of liquor emanating from the vehicle, the driver was asked to exit the vehicle and a roadside investigation for impaired operation of a conveyance commenced. The driver provided a suitable breath sample, resulting in a warn. The driver was prohibited from driving for 3 days and the vehicle was impounded for 3 days.

90 Day immediate roadside prohibition

On May 21 2022 at 11:45pm, Kitimat RCMP officers were conducting a road block when a vehicle approached the road block, failed to stop for the first officer, almost hitting them and continued until another officer was able to get the vehicle to stop. The driver was observed with an open can of beer in the front console and was exhibiting signs of impairment. An impaired operation investigation commenced and police were able to determine through roadside screening that the driver was impaired. The driver was prohibited from driving for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

On May 23 2022 at 3:28am, Kitimat RCMP officer on patrol observed a grey vehicle following another vehicle too closely on Hwy 37, swerve back and forth. A traffic stop was conducted, police noted a strong odor of liquor emanating from the driver as they spoke. Police conducted a roadside impaired investigation, resulting in the driver being prohibited from driving for 90 days and the vehicle impounded for 30 days.

Emergency SOS

On May 25 2022 Kitimat RCMP received a report of a SOS notification from a person who works in a camp between Smithers and Kitimat. Police were able to speak with the person who’s phone the SOS notification came from, confirmed their well being and learned that their phone wasn’t working properly, the screen wasn’t coming on and it was making weird sounds. No emergency, SOS was confirmed false.
