Impaired driver

On April 23 2022 Kitimat RCMP officer was conducting patrols near Haisla Blvd when they observed a vehicle westbound with a burned out headlight. A traffic stop was initiated and police were able to determine that the insurance on that vehicle was inactive. Police were able to determine through a roadside investigation the class 7 driver was impaired by alcohol. The vehicle was impounded and the driver was issued a 3 day driving prohibition.

Theft of donation cans

On April 23 2022 at 12:57 pm Kitimat RCMP received a report of a theft from outside Shawn’s Autobody. A silver Dodge Grand Caravan driven by an unknown female with an unknown male passenger, drove onto the property and took 6-8 bags full of bottles/cans destined for a local charity. The Bottle Depot confirmed that the items were deposited and totaled $110. Police were able to identify the male and female as they returned to the same place two days later. Police spoke with them about trespassing on private property and cautioned them on theft.

Online harassment

On April 25 2022 Kitimat RCMP received a report of a student making harassing comments after school hours on the Kitimat City High School on school website. Police were requested to assist in facilitating a conversation with that student and school administrators.

Mischief

On April 25 2022 at 8:00 am Kitimat RCMP received a report of two youths that were observed on surveillance spray painting the Haisla Recreation Centre and Haisla Community School. The same youths were observed lighting a fire at the school a few days prior. Police spoke with the youths and their guardians about these events. The youths were very receptive throughout the conversation and agreed to wash the spray paint off the walls, Haisla Public works to provide the cleaning supplies.

Single motor vehicle incident

On April 27 2022 at 4:10 pm, Kitimat RCMP attended the scene of a single vehicle incident north of Kitimat on Highway 37. The vehicle landed on its side, requiring a tow truck to remove it. No injuries were reported.

Noise bylaw

On April 28 2022 at 10:18 pm Kitimat RCMP received a report of loud music playing new Saguenay St. Police officers attended, spoke with the property representative who was having a bonfire and music playing. Police officers advised them of the 24 hour Noise Bylaw in Kitimat and cautioned them on repeat offences might lead to a bylaw ticket being issued. Police remind everyone within Kitimat of the noise bylaw and encourage us to be all good neighbors.
