On Wednesday, April 19, 2022, Cst Ryder Heim of the Trail and Greater District RCMP joined the South Columbia Search and Rescue team for a mock training exercise along the old Waneta Highway.

Cst Heim and two members of Columbia Search and Rescue are on a boat.

The exercise simulated a crashed watercraft in the Columbia River and searchers deployed to both sides of the river bank to rescue a lifelike water training doll. The team also used a boat to help facilitate the mock water rescue.

Member of Search and Rescue and RCMP carry a training mannequin on a stretcher.

This was a great opportunity for shared training, says Sgt. Mike Wicentowich, Non-Commissioned Officer in charge of Trail and Greater District RCMP detachment. Practising together in scenarios like this allows us to be prepared should a real incident occur.
