This past week, December 6th through December 12th, the Columbia Valley RCMP responded to 55 calls for service. The following is a summary of some of the files our officers responded to.

On Tuesday, December 7th at about 1:45 am an officer conducted a traffic stop with a Chevrolet Impala on Highway 93/95 near Windermere. While speaking to the driver, the officer formed grounds to believe the man was impaired by alcohol. The driver was arrested for impaired driving and transported to the detachment where he provided breath samples, which were over the legal limit. The driver was released on conditions to attend court at a later date in relation to driving while impaired.

On Tuesday, December 7th at about 8:30 am an officer was conducting patrols on Highway 93/95 near Radium Hot Springs when he observed a man he knew to be prohibited from driving operating a pickup. The officer conducted a traffic stop and arrested the driver for prohibited driving. The vehicle was impounded for seven days and the driver was released on conditions to attend court at a later date.

On Tuesday, December 7th at about 6:00 pm emergency crews responded to a truck fire on Burns Avenue in Canal Flats. The fire department was able to extinguish the fire but the truck sustained significant damage. No injuries were reported. The fire was believed to be caused by mechanical issues.

On Wednesday, December 8th at about 4:30 am police responded to a single vehicle collision on Highway 93 in Kootenay National Park. The driver of a commercial transport truck failed to negotiate a curve and struck a concrete barrier. The driver was transported to the hospital with minor injuries and the truck was towed from the scene.

On Sunday, December 12th a 2008 blue GMC Sierra pickup was reported stolen from a parking lot on Canyon Avenue in Radium Hot Springs. The truck had been left unlocked with the keys in it and it was unknown when the truck was stolen.
