On August 9, 2021 at 2:18am, Fort St John RCMP received a report of an alarm at a commercial business on the 10900 block of Tahltan Rd in Fort St John.
An RCMP officer in the area observed an older model green GMC pickup driving at a high rate of speed which was deemed suspicious.
Frontline police officers attended the business and determined that 3 coin machines had been damaged or removed from the business.
The original officer located the suspect vehicle. The driver was arrested nearby, a very short time later, after trying to flee on foot from police. The suspect had a tool with them that appeared to be related to the theft at the commercial business.
During a search, a significant amount of property associated to the business was located in the suspect’s pockets.
Police queries conducted on the green GMC truck revealed that this was the truck that was stolen in the Cecil Lake area between July 31 and August 2. Associated media release.
"Frontline police officers work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, proactively patrolling our city," said Constable Chad Neustaeter, Media Relations Officer for the Fort St John RCMP. "The frontline police officer that observed the truck fleeing the scene was in the right place at the right time and able to make the arrest."
Douglas Goodings was transported to the RCMP detachment and is facing charges of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000, Theft under $5000, Possession of Instruments for Breaking Into Coin Devices, Flight from a Peace Officer and Refusal to Provide a Sample.
Goodings was remanded in custody for court on August 12, 2021.
