RCMP and the BC Coroners Service continue to investigate the full circumstances surrounding the unexpected death of a woman pedestrian who succumbed to the injuries she sustained as a result of being struck by a vehicle Friday afternoon in the Shuswap.

On January 15, 2021 just minutes before 3 p.m., Salmon Arm RCMP and emergency medical crews responded to a pedestrian involved collision at 3 Street SW and Highway 1 in Salmon Arm.

The pedestrian, an elderly woman in her 80s, was struck by a Ford F150 pickup truck turning onto the highway. The victim was transported to hospital by BC Emergency Health Services for medical treatment.

The operator of the pickup truck involved remained at the scene and fully cooperated with investigators.

On January 19, 2021 RCMP has learned that the pedestrian has since passed away in hospital. The BC Coroners Service, who is also investigating the woman’s death, has launched its own concurrent fact-finding investigation. Due to the privacy of the deceased, under the Coroner’s Act, her name will not be released.

Although investigators have ruled out certain contributing factors, police and the BC Coroners Service are appealing to other witnesses to come forward, and ask anyone with any dash camera footage to contact police, states Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey, spokesman for the BC RCMP in the Southeast District.

If you witnessed this pedestrian involved collision and have not yet spoken to police you are asked to call the Salmon Arm RCMP at 250-832-6044.
