Abandoned 911 call

A 911 call was received from a business located in Mountain View Square on October 10th at approximately 3:30 pm. The investigating officer attended and contacted the store manager to ensure all was well. A check on all the employees and phone areas was completed and there were no issues noted. This is a good reminder that if you accidently call 911, do not panic and do not hang up. Stay on the phone and speak with the call taker. Simply staying on line and having the conversation uses much less resources then hanging up and having the police come find you. (2024-3736)

Prohibited driver

While on routine patrol during the evening of October 12th, a Kitimat RCMP officer was conducting checks on vehicles and located a vehicle being operated that was registered to a prohibited driver. A traffic stop was conducted and investigation revealed that the driver was in fact prohibited from driving and was arrested. The driver was released from custody on an appearance notice to attend court in November to answer to the charge of driving while prohibited. The vehicle was impounded for 7 days. (2024-3762)

Suspicious vehicle

A vehicle parked on a walking path in the Nechako neighbourhood, that seemed suspicious to a local resident, was called into the Kitimat RCMP on October 13th, at approximately 9:00 am. A description of the vehicle was provided and a Kitimat RCMP officer attended the area, quickly locating the vehicle. A check was conducted with the driver who was with the vehicle. It was found that there had been a bear in the area along the pathway and they were there to warn people in the area. (2024-3764)

Intoxicated in public

On October 14th at 11:10 am, a Kitimat RCMP officer was making patrols in the downtown area when they noticed a male that appeared to be intoxicated walking in the Mountain View Square area. A discussion was had with the male. It was found they were intoxicated at a level that they were unable to be left on their own. The male was arrested for causing a disturbance by being drunk in public and was taken back to the Kitimat RCMP Cells. He was released without charge once sober. (2024-3768)

Conversation results in arrest

On October 16th, at approximately 11:00 pm, a Kitimat RCMP officer was parked in the parking lot of a business located on the 800 block of Tsimshian Blvd, having a conversation with a driver of another vehicle. During this conversation, a male approached the officer and began speaking to the officer in an angry manner about why the officer was there. The officer got out of their vehicle and attempted to speak to the male to try and figure out where they were staying and how to best get them there. Instead, the male became more aggressive and ended up being arrested for causing a disturbance by being intoxicated in public. After a struggle, the male was placed into the police vehicle and lodged into the Kitimat RCMP cells, where he continued to resist with the officers. The male was released the following morning after being served a violation ticket for being intoxicated in public under section 74(1) of the Liquor Control and Licensing Act. (2024-3808)
