Two IRP’s in 16 mins
Two Kitimat RCMP officers had two different impaired driver files within 16 mins if each other during the early morning hours of October 3rd. The first officer was on routine patrol in the Whitesail neighbourhood and pulled in behind a vehicle stopped at the stop sign. Even though there was no traffic, the vehicle did not attempt to leave the intersection. The officer conducted a traffic stop. The driver was investigated for impaired driving and after providing two breath samples into an approved screening device, the driver was issued a 3-day immediate roadside suspension and the vehicle was impounded. While this was occurring a second Kitimat RCMP officer received a report of a possible impaired driver on the 800 block of Tsimshian Blvd. A good description of the vehicle was proving, allowing the officer to locate the vehicle very quickly. The driver provided two samples of their breath as well, resulting in a 90 Immediate roadside driving prohibition and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days. (2024-3644, 2024-3645)
Mischief to property
A report of a person damaging a field on Carlson St was received by the Kitimat RCMP on October 4th at 5:45 pm. It was reported that the person was driving an atv and tearing up the grass. The responding officer attended in under 10 minutes, unfortunately the atv had left. Extensive patrols were conducted, however the atv and rider were not located. If you have any information regarding this mischief, please contact the Kitimat RCMP at 250-632-7111. Anyone that is found to cause this kind of damage to property could face a charge under section 430 of the Criminal Code of Canada. (2024-3662)
Fight results in breach of probation charge
On October 5th at approximately 7:30 pm, the Kitimat RCMP was called to attend to two males fighting on the 200 block of City Centre. The investigation officers attended and located two males drinking liquor and yelling at each other. Both were arrested for causing a disturbance by being intoxicated in public. One male was also found to be in breach of a probation order. Both were taken back to the Kitimat RCMP detachment cells. The following morning, one male was released without charge while the male found in breach was released on an undertaking to attend court to answer to the breach of probation charge. (2024-3674)
Single vehicle collision
The Kitimat RCMP received a call of a single vehicle collision on Highway 37 near Humphry Creek on October 6th at approximately 7:30pm. The call was received during a very hard rain event in the area. A vehicle was located that had driven off the road and rolled several times. Responding emergency services were already on scene and assisting the three occupants out of the damaged vehicle. Luckily there was no injuries reported. The Kitimat RCMP would like to remind motorists that the weather can change very quickly this time of year. Its very important to ensure you slow down and drive carefully with current conditions and be prepared that the conditions can change again within a few kilometers. (2024-3689)
Suspicious bike
A report of a suspicious bicycle chained to a sign post on private property located on the 1600 block of Haisla Blvd on October 8th. A Kitimat RCMP officer attended and was able to determine that the bike had not been reported stolen. If you had chained your bike and forgot where you left it, this might possibly be it. (2024-3709)
Speedy driver served IRP
While on routine patrol at approximately 11:52 pm on October 8th, a Kitimat RCMP officer was driving an unmarked police vehicle north on Haisla Blvd. Another vehicle approached the police vehicle from the rear at a high rate of speed and passed the officer. A speed of 95 km/h in the 60 km/h zone was captured on the police vehicles radar unit. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver was found to have been intoxicated after providing two breath samples into an approved screening device. The driver was served with a 90-day immediate roadside driving prohibition along with an excessive speed violation ticket. The vehicle was impounded for 30 days as well. (2024-3711)
Business alarm
At approximately 3:50 am on October 9th, the Kitimat RCMP was advised of several break and enter alarm hits to a business located on the 1300 block of Alexander Ave. The investigation officers checked all doors around the building which were locked. Upon getting back to the main entrance a male was located inside the building and opened the front door for police. The male was able to provide identification and advised he was there working on electrical panels. The worker had just turned the power back on which would have activated the alarms. (2024-3713)
