Concerned family member
The Kitimat RCMP received a check wellbeing for a worker that was in town at a local job site on September 25th. Out of town family members had been attempting to contact the worker and were unable to, which was unusual. The investigating officer was able to identify what site the worker was staying and contacted them. The worker had been ill and not using their phone while resting and reached out to their family to confirm their well being. (2024-3567)
Prohibited driver
While conducting proactive patrols on September 27th, a Kitimat RCMP officer located a motorcycle being operated by a rider without a helmet in the Nechako neighbourhood. A traffic stop was conducted and the investigation further revealed that the rider was prohibited from driving. The rider was arrested for driving while prohibited and released after being provided a court date to face the charge. The motorcycle was impounded as well. (2024-3571)
Vehicle vs building collision
At approximately 1:00 pm on September 28th, the Kitimat RCMP were advised of a collision between a vehicle and a building on the 500 block of Mountainview Square. Initially when the responding officers attended, the vehicle was no longer on scene, however it was evident with the damage to the building that it had been struck by a vehicle. During the investigation, the driver returned to the scene to report that they had struck the wall, but hadn’t realized how much damage was done. The driver was charged under the motor vehicle act with drive without due care and attention. The driver did not suffer any injuries. One person that was in the store was taken to a local hospital to be checked after items from a shelf had struck them during the impact. (2024-3586)
Driver intoxication
An erratic driving complaint was received by the Kitimat RCMP at approximately 7:45 pm on September 28th. A description of the vehicle, a semi truck towing a flatbed trailer, was provided allowing the investigation officer to locate the vehicle. A traffic stop was conducted and an investigation into impaired driving was started. The driver provided two samples of breath into approves screening devices and failed both tests. As a result, the driver was issued a 90-day immediate roadside driving prohibition and the commercial vehicle was impounded for 30 days. (2024-3593)
Intoxicated in public
At 6:15 am on September 29th, the Kitimat RCMP received a complaint of two possibly intoxicated people walking along a Whitesail neighbourhood street with open alcohol. Patrols were conducted and the two persons were located. While attempting to talk with them, one person became agitated and belligerent towards the officer. As a result, they were arrested for causing a disturbance by being drunk in public and transported to the Kitimat RCMP cells, being released later in the day without charge. The second person was able to leave from the scene and head home. (2024-3599)
Reconciliation dinner
On September 30th, 4 officers from the Kitimat RCMP had the honor to be asked to attend the Reconciliation dinner hosted at Riverlodge. The officer assisted by serving dinner to the members of the Kitamaat village and Kitimat residents in attendance. The ceremonies held and stories told by the survivors were very powerful and so very important to ensure they are not forgotten and to help with the healing that is needed.
Suspicious lights
An alert citizen noticed a suspicious occurrence at a residence located in the Kildala neighbourhood at approximately 9:45 pm. It was reported that it appeared people were in a dark residence, only using flashlights, which was very suspicious. The responding Kitimat RCMP officers attended and was able to identify the persons in the residence. It was found new people were moving into the residence, however the power had been turned off, so flashlights were being used. (2024-3630)
Coffee with a cop
The Kitimat RCMP would like to thank the Kitimat McDonalds for the coffee and treats that was provided for the first Kitimat RCMP and Kitimat McDonalds Coffee with a cop event. Several residents came in out of the rain, grabbed a coffee and sat with the officers engaging in good conversations.
