The Terrace RCMP responded to approximately 228 calls between September 6 and September 12, 2024. Below are a few highlights of those calls:
Hitchhiker with warrant
On the night of September 6, RCMP received a report of a man and woman who were on the shoulder of Highway 16 wearing dark clothing and were hard to see in the dark. The caller was worried for their safety. Police attended and identified the pair who were attempting to hitchhike to Prince Rupert. The man was intoxicated and also determined to have a warrant. He was arrested on the warrant and taken to cells until sober. The woman was given a courtesy ride back into Terrace where she was dropped off at a safe place. (2024-7884)
Impaired investigation results in weapons and ammo seized
On September 6, an officer observed a pickup truck which was swerving, braking, and excelerating. The officer conducted a traffic stop to determine sobriety and immediately observed boxes of ammunition in various locations, empty beer cans, and drug paraphernalia throughout the front seat. The man was detained for an impaired investigation. The officer located rifles and a shotgun in the back seat which were insecure, one of which was loaded, along with knives and additional ammunition. The man was found not to be impaired, however, RCMP will be forwarding the results of the investigation to BC Prosecution Services for consideration of charges. (2024-7890)
Assault on By Law officer
On September 7th, 2024, RCMP responded to a report of an assault on a Terrace By Law Officer which occurred in the downtown area of Terrace. The By Law officer reported that during the execution of regular duties, a man was uncooperative and assaulted the officer. The officer defended himself and the fight went to the ground. The man was located and arrested for assault and later released when sober, with a court date. The By Law officer received minor injuries. (2024-7909)
Packages mis-delivered, not stolen
On the morning of September 10, 2024, packages were delivered to a home in the horseshoe area of Terrace. A short time after the delivery, a woman was observed on camera to be at the front door of the same house, taking the packages and departing. It was determined that the woman was the rightful owner of the packages which had unfortunately been delivered to the wrong address. All parties involved were made aware of the misunderstanding. Warning for driver of semi truck
On September 12, 2024, a CVSE officer conducted a traffic stop on Kalum Lake Road with the driver of a semi truck after observing it to be driving 20 kms over the speed limit. The officer noted an odour of liquor on the driver and contacted the RCMP who attended and began an impaired investigation. The driver provided a breath sample into an approved screening device which resulted in a warn. The man was arrested, issued a driving prohibition, vehicle impound, and a courtesy ride into town.
