Public consumption of alcohol and cannabis

On August 22 2024 at 8:40pm, Kitimat RCMP received a call of people drinking near Blackberry Street Kitimat. The caller reported that there was a group of adults drinking and smoking weed at the bike park. Police responded and located some males in the bike park. They were smoking vapes and listening to music. There was no smell of marijuana and no signs of alcohol. They reported that they were there just celebrating a friend’s birthday. (KT File 2024-3058)

Disturbance

On August 23 2024 just after midnight, Kitimat RCMP received a report of a disturbance at a residence in the Whitesail neighbourhood. The caller reporting that they were injured and required medical assistance. Police responded and located an injured victim inside the residence. Police arrested another person at scene. The victim was transported to Kitimat Hospital. Police initiated an investigation and learned it was an assault between parties known to each other. The arrested person was transferred to Kitimat detachment cells where they were held pending a bail hearing. The investigation continues. (KT File 2024-3060).

Bar checks

On August 23 and 24th 20204, Kitimat RCMP conducted checks of the local liquor establishments. One person was located inside an establishment that was causing a disturbance. They were arrested and taken to cells to prevent the continuation of the offence. They were released without charge the following day.

Lost phone that was returned

On August 24 2024 at 3:20pm a Google phone was turned into Kitimat RCMP that was located on the Hirsch Creek Trail in Kitimat. Police were able to conduct queries on the identification that was with the phone and located the owner, returning it to them. (KT File 2024-3087)

Facebook marketplace scam

On August 24 2024 a caller reported that her daughter was scammed on Facebook Marketplace over Taylor Swift concert tickets. The caller reported that $500 was sent to the seller, but it was seized by their bank because the seller attempted to change their email address in the process. Kitimat RCMP encouraged the caller to stop buying/selling items using Facebook Marketplace, if they cannot confirm the seller. Kitimat RCMP encourage all buyers and sellers to be aware of possible scams on platforms such as Facebook Marketplace. (KT File 2024-3083)

Help ID person of interest

On June 28th, 2024, the Kitimat RCMP initiated an investigation into a theft under $5000 at a local business on the 700 block of Lahakas Blvd. The investigation is continuing; however, the investigator has been unbale to identify the person of interest after reviewing the CCTV video provided. The Kitimat RCMP are releasing a photo in hopes of learning their identity. If you can identify this person of interest, contact Constable Louie at the Kitimat RCMP at 250-632-7111, and cite file number 2024-2326. If you’d like to remain anonymous, you can send a tip to Northern BC Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

Back to school reminder

Kitimat RCMP are reminding motorists that school is back in after summer vacation. Police will be out enforcing school zone speed limits and ensuring proper stopping at all stop signs. Please ensure that all drivers are following road safety rules. Pedestrians are encouraged to remain visible to vehicular traffic. Best practices include; crossing streets at crosswalks or intersections, walking on sidewalks when available, and if there is not a sidewalk – walk facing traffic and as far from traffic as possible.
