Police seek witnesses to overnight fatal crash

Police are seeking anyone with information about a single vehicle collision that resulted in one person’s death.

On August 25, 2024 at 12:30 a.m., the Campbell River RCMP received a report that a vehicle had left the Gold River Highway and gone down an embankment. A motorist had noticed that highway barriers were out of place on Highway 28 between Campbell River and Strathcona Lodge. Upon further investigation a vehicle was located fully submerged in water. Tragically, one person did not survive. There is no indication that anyone else was involved in the crash.

The investigation is in the early stages and causal factors are not yet known.

The Campbell River RCMP, with the assistance of the RCMP Dive Team and the Campbell River Search and Rescue Team, are currently working to recover the vehicle and deceased. Traffic will be affected during the recovery and Main Roads is on scene directing traffic.
