Prohibited drivers driving
The speed that a vehicle was driving along Haisla Blvd caught the attention of a Kitimat RCMP officer at approximately 1:45 am on August 8th. A traffic stop was conducted and it was found that the driver had not consumed alcohol before driving and was sober. While checking for the drivers license status, it was found the driver was a prohibited driver. They were arrested and released with a court date in September to answer to the charge of driving while prohibited. The vehicle was also impounded for 7 days. (2024-2871) Another traffic stop at 8:50 pm on August 9th yielded a second driver in two days that was driving while prohibited. A traffic stop was conducted with this vehicle; however, the driver was unable to produce a driver’s licence. Investigation showed that the driver was prohibited from driving and was arrested for this offence. This driver was released with a court date in October to answer to this charge and the vehicle was impounded for 7 days. (2024-2906)
Excessive speeder
While on routine patrol during the morning commute at 6:00 am on August 8th, a patrolling Kitimat RCMP officer noticed a vehicle traveling along highway 37 at what appeared to be an excessive speed. A check on the radar showed that the vehicle was going 128 km/h in the posted 80 km/h zone on the Hirsch Creek bridge. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver was issued a violation ticket for excessive speeding and the vehicle was impounded for 7 days. (2024-2873)

On August 10th at 9:00 pm, the Kitimat RCMP was advised of a collision of a side by side on the Kitamaat Village Road. The responding officers attended and located the vehicle rolled over in the ditch. Two persons were identified to have been involved in the collision, with the driver being taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries. It was found the driver had consumed alcohol before driving and it was also found the driver was suspended from operating a motor vehicle. The driver was served with a 90-day immediate road side driving prohibition and a charge of driving while suspended. The side by side was impounded for 30 days as well. (2024-2921)
Abandoned collision
While conducting patrols on August 11th at approximately 2:30 pm, a Kitimat RCMP officer was flagged down by a pedestrian and advised of an abandoned vehicle that had crashed on the Dyke road. Patrols were made and the damaged vehicle was located. The investigation officers were able to identify the registered owner and contacted them, to ensure they were not injured in the collision. Luckily, there were no injuries reported. The owner was issued a violation ticket for failing to remain at the scene of an accident. (2024-2929)
Breach probation
While conducting patrols in the Nechako Neighbourhood at midnight on August 13th, a Kitimat RCMP officer approached a vehicle to conduct a check on the driver. While the driver was being spoken to, actions being taken by the passenger to hide their face and identity perked suspicion in the officer. The passenger was quickly identified as a 35-year-old female that was known to the officer as being on a probation order with a curfew, which was being breached. The officer attempted to arrest the suspect, however she attempted to flee the area on foot. After a short foot pursuit and struggle the arrest was made. The suspect was held in custody for a bail hearing to face the charges of Breach Probation, resist arrest and obstruct a police officer. She was held in custody until the next court date later in the month. (2024-2938)
