Weekend report April 19 - 22

The Chilliwack RCMP Detachment responded to approximately 371 calls for service between 7:00 am on April 19, 2024 and 3:00 am on April 22, 2024. Below are some of the highlights:

Theft and assault of Loss Prevention Officer

2024-15702

On April 21, 2024, at approximately 5 pm, a Loss Prevention Officer from the Save On Foods in downtown Chilliwack reported being assaulted when trying to arrest a male for theft of ice cream. The suspect was located in the parking lot by police and arrested. The LPO suffered minor injuries and as a result of the investigation, the male was released from custody and is expected to appear in court at a later date. The male is also bound by conditions to not attend the Save On Foods.

Break and enter suspects caught in the act

On April 21, 2024 at approximately 3 pm, the Chilliwack RCMP responded to a report of Break and Enter in progress at a construction site. A male was seen entering the second floor of an apartment building on Riverside Drive after cutting a hole in the construction fence. Police attended and located a male and a female suspect whom were arrested for Break and Enter. The investigation revealed evidence that copper wire was being cut and taken from inside the building. The male and female were later released from custody and will appear in court at a later date.

Fatal collision between two off road vehicles

On April 20, 2024 at approximately 5:30 pm, the Chilliwack RCMP responded to a report of a collision between two off-road motorcycles on Chipmunk Creek Forest Service Road. Life saving measures were exhausted on a 22-year-old female rider but she sadly succumbed to her injuries. The Integrated Collision Analysis Section attended to assist in the investigation which is ongoing. Criminality has not been ruled out.

This is the second fatality in a week involving an off-road vehicle in the Chipmunk Creek area. On April 13, 2024 the Chilliwack RCMP responded to a fatal collision involving a single off-road vehicle. This collision resulted in the death of a 31-year-old female. Criminality is not believed to be a factor.

On April 20, 2024 at approximately 1 am, the Chilliwack RCMP received an iPhone Crash Notification after the driver of a vehicle lost control and crashed into a tree near Rosedale. Police attended and located a female driver who showed signs of impairment. The driver was subsequently arrested for Impaired Driving, the investigation is ongoing. No other vehicle was involved in this incident and thankfully no one hurt.

On April 20, 2024 at approximately 1 am, the Chilliwack RCMP responded to a report of a single vehicle collision between a vehicle and a power pole. Police attended and located the male driver who showed signs of impairment. The male was arrested and later released on paperwork compelling him to court at a later date. BC Hydro and the Chilliwack Fire Department attended the scene to ensure the damaged power pole did not pose any safety risk to the public.
