Kitimat RCMP weekly report June 29th - July 5th

3-day IRP:

While on routine patrols during, the early morning hours of June 29th, a Kitimat RCMP Officer’s attention was brought to the manner a vehicle was being operated on Kingfisher Ave, in Kitimat BC. A traffic stop was initiated which resulted in an investigation into impaired operation of a motor vehicle. The driver provided a sample of their breath and it was determined they had consumed alcohol before driving. As a result, the driver was issued a 3-day immediate roadside driving prohibition and the vehicle was impounded for 3 days (2023-2365)

Theft from vehicle:

The Kitimat RCMP received a report of a theft from a vehicle that was parked at a business during the day of June 30th, 2023. It was stated that the vehicle had an amount of cash and prescription medication removed from it. There did not appear to be any damage to the vehicle. The Kitimat RCMP would like to remind drivers to ensure nothing of value is left in your vehicles, and ensure they are locked when left unattended. (2023-2386)

Suspicious substance found:

On July 1st, while out for a walk on the pathway, near Bartholomew Street, in Kitimat BC, a suspicious substance, believe to be drugs, was located by a pedestrian who reported it to the Kitimat RCMP right. The substance was seized by the responding RCMP officer. Thankfully the unknown substance wasn’t ingested by an animal or child. If you find anything suspicious, please contact the RCMP at 250-632-7111. (2023-2413)

Illegal cigarettes seized:

During a traffic stop on July 1st, 2023, a Kitimat RCMP officer noticed a package of cigarettes in the vehicle that was not stamped with the official government markings. As a result, the driver was arrested under section 2 of the tobacco act for possession of illegal tobacco. More illegal tobacco was seized. The driver was released from custody and the trafficking of illegal tobacco in the community is continuing. If you have any information regarding illegal tobacco, you can contact the Kitimat RCMP detachment at 250-632-7111 or you can report your information to Northern BC Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). You will stay anonymous and if your information leads to an arrest, you could receive a $2000 reward.

90-day IRP:

During the late-night hours of July 1st, 2023, a Kitimat RCMP Officer noticed a vehicle diving on Haisla Blvd, in Kitimat BC without any head or tail lights illuminated. A traffic stop was initiated and an investigation into the impaired operation of a motor vehicle was started. After providing samples of their breath, it was determined the driver had consumed alcohol before driving. The driver was given a 90-day immediate road side prohibition and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days. (2023-2421)

Possible theft from river bank:

The Kitimat RCMP received a report of a possible theft on July 3rd, 2023. It was reported that, while fishing along the Kitimat River near the lower Dyke Road, a fisherman’s black bag containing identification, bear spray, clothing and fishing gear had gone missing. It is uncertain if there were any items in the bag that could have attracted a bear wandering past, or if it was taken by someone else in area. Possible impaired driver:

On July 5th, 2023, the Kitimat RCMP received a complaint of a vehicle that was driving in an erratic manner along the Kitamaat village road. A good description of the vehicle was provided, which enabled the responding Kitimat RCMP Officer to locate the vehicle in question. A traffic stop was conducted; however, the driver was found not to be intoxicated and was talked to about driving erratically. (2023-2470)

24 hour driving prohibition:

While on routine patrol during the afternoon of July 5th, 2023, a vehicle traveling along Lahakas Blvd N caught the attention of a Kitimat RCMP officer. A traffic stop was conducted and it was found that the driver had consumed alcohol before driving. The driver provided a sample of their breath and was issued 24 hour driving prohibition, with the vehicle being impounded.
