Trail RCMP seizes guns and drugs

On Monday, June 19, 2023, at 7:25 p.m. a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer responded to a complaint of a 34-year-old Trail man allegedly using drugs in the 100 block of Old Rossland Avenue, in Trail, BC. The officers spotted a firearm inside a nearby car after making contact with the man. The man was detained by the officers for further investigation. Officers discovered handgun holster and ammunition on the man during an incidental search. Officers arrested the man and took him into police custody.

Officers seized a .22 calibre handgun, a shotgun, a substance believed to be a street drug, cell phones, $445 and other drug trafficking paraphernalia during the investigation.

On June 20, 2023, Christopher Allan Moubray was charged with the below criminal counts:

Possess Restricted Weapon while Prohibited contrary to Section 117.01(1) of the Criminal Code
Possess Restricted Weapon while Prohibited contrary to Section 117.01(1) of the Criminal Code x 2
Possess Prohibited\Restricted Firearm with Ammunition contrary to Section 95(1) of Criminal Code
Possess Firearm knowing its Unauthorized contrary to Section 92(1) of the Criminal Code x 2

Mr. Moubray remains in custody pending a future court date.

Man flees from police on stolen motorcycle

On Friday, June 23, 2023, at 2:27 p.m. a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer received a report that a 28-year-old Trail man was riding an unlicensed dirt bike on Nelson Avenue, in Trail, BC. The officer conducted a patrol in the area and located the man riding the motorcycle near the intersection of Lookout Street and Warren Lane. The officer activated the emergency equipment on his marked police vehicle. The man fled on the motorcycle to the end of Warren Lane, abandoned the motorcycle at the end of the dead end street, then leapt 30 feet down an embankment, and ran away.

The officer did not pursue the man; however, recovered the motorcycle. The motorcycle is believed to be one of two motorcycles stolen from a Fruitvale business on April 15, 2023 (Trail File 2023-1630).

Trail RCMP are pursuing criminal charges against the 34-year-old Trail man who remains at large.

Trail citizens quick actions saves life

On Friday, June 23, 2023, at 7:54 a.m. frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officers responded to a report that bystanders had prevented a 33-year-old Trail woman from allegedly trying to jump from off the Victoria Street Bridge, in Trail, BC. The bystanders convinced the woman to return to the safety of the bridge deck after she had put one leg over the safety railing and indicated that she may harm herself.

Officers attended the scene and apprehended the woman under Section 28 of the BC Mental Health Act. An officer transported the woman to the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital for a medical assessment.

Social media fraud alert

On Saturday, June 24, 2023, at 1:06 p.m. a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer received a report from a year-old Montrose woman who was the victim of a fraud from a fake company listed on a social media website. The woman had electronically transferred $5000 to an unknown person at the company who had promised to send her $82,000 in return. When she did not receive the money, she contacted the Trail Detachment.

The woman was provided with information on how to prevent further victimization.

Police cannot recover money sent electronically or through gift cards over social media. Please keep it in mind that once you send the money it is gone for good. No one is going to send you more money in return. Every year thousands of people fall victim to this simple scam. says Sgt. Wicentowich

Toxic street drug warning

Trail and Greater District RCMP is informing the public that the local street drug supply has been associated to upwards of 35 overdoses since Wednesday, June 21, 2023, and should be consider extremely dangerous, and possibly fatal to consume. Trail RCMP responded to a number of drug overdoses over the course of the weekend. Currently, no fatalities have been reported to the Trail RCMP at this time.
