Long weekend warrant blitz leads to twelve arrests

Over the Easter long weekend, front line officers at Port Alberni RCMP detachment conducted a warrant blitz, which landed 12 people in custody.
Most of these warrants required alleged offenders to stay in custody and attend before a Justice to determine if they were eligible for bail. While some have been released by a Justice for future court dates, many have been detained in custody.
Front line officers know the importance of ensuring and maintaining the community’s confidence in the administration of justice, as well as ensuring that people accused of crimes attend for their court dates as required
stated Constable Richard Johns. Throughout the weekend, officers worked to ensure the BC Prosecution Service had all necessary information to conduct bail hearings, and to ensure those that were released for a future court date are being monitored with appropriate release conditions.
Seeing 12 people arrested for these outstanding matters shows our officers dedication to our community and its safety. During the same period officers responded to over 120 calls for service throughout the community, resulting in nine more charges under the Criminal Code or other provincial acts.
