File # 2023-100

A young boy was taken to hospital this morning after being struck by a vehicle on the 400-block of Woods Avenue in Courtenay.

Shortly after 8:30 a.m. frontline officers responded to the call reporting that a 5-year old boy had just been struck by a vehicle on Woods Avenue in Courtenay. Upon arrival, the area was blocked off for a short time while first responders tended to the child, and spoke with witnesses, including the driver of the vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and has been fully cooperative with the investigation. There is no indication that speed, impairment, or carelessness were factors in this incident said Cst. Monika Terragni, Media Relations Officer, Comox Valley RCMP. This is an unfortunate reminder for both pedestrians and drivers to be extra careful during the busy times children are headed to and from school she added.

The boy remains in hospital after suffering non-life threatening injuries. He is expected to recover.
