Pedestrian in critical condition after evening crash on Highway 19A

A 48-year old Parksville man is in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle on Highway 19A on the evening of November 29, 2022.

At approximately 8:00 p.m. on November 29, 2022 an Oceanside RCMP officer on patrol discovered a seriously injured pedestrian laying on the south side of Highway 19A near Plummer Road in Parksville. It appeared the pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle, however there were no vehicles at the scene. Paramedics attended and rushed the pedestrian to hospital with critical injuries.

Shortly after the pedestrian was located, police received a call from a driver who reported they believed they may have struck a person in the area of Highway 19A and Plummer Road. The vehicle involved in the crash has been seized for forensic analysis and the driver is cooperating with the investigation.

Although road and weather conditions at the time were dark and snowy, the investigation in to the definitive cause of the crash has not yet been established, says Sergeant Shane Worth of the Oceanside RCMP.

The investigation is continuing with the assistance of an RCMP collision reconstructionist.
