Civil Dispute:

On October 13th 2022, the Kitimat RCMP were dispatched to a civil dispute. The officer attended and spoke to both parties, providing guidance on how to settle the dispute.

Impaired Drivers x2

During the early evening hours of October 13th, 2022, The Kitimat RCMP entered into two separate impaired driving investigations. The first driver provided breath samples into an approved screening device. The Driver was found to be under the influence of alcohol. As a result. the driver was issued a 90-day driving prohibition and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days. An hour later a second vehicle was stopped after being observed speeding. This driver was also found to be under the influence of alcohol and was issued a 90-day immediate driving prohibition and their vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

Impaired by Drugs:

A traffic stop, during the early morning hours of October 14th, 2022, produced another impaired driving investigation. This driver was found to be under the influence of drugs and was issued a 24-hour driving prohibition. The vehicle was impounded and a small number of drugs and paraphernalia was seized.

Illegal Drinking:

During a community event on October 15th, 2022, Kitimat RCMP officers conducted a Liquor Control Act License check and found the organization was compliant with the license. However, a foot patrol in the area resulted in several alcohol containers being dumped out. Many warnings were given under the Cannabis Act, Liquor Control License Act and Motor Vehicle Act. The Kitimat RCMP does want everyone to have a good time, but it needs to be done in a safe, legal way.

Theft from Vehicle:

A theft from a motor vehicle and garage was reported to the Kitimat RCMP on October 17th, 2022. It was reported that overnight, someone entered the vehicle and stole some personal items. Tools were also taken out of the garage. This theft is still under investigation.

Hit and Run:

A Hit and Run was reported to the Kitimat RCMP on October 18th, 2022. Sometime overnight, a vehicle parked on Albatross Ave appeared to have been struck by another vehicle, causing extensive damages. Neighborhood enquiries were done and a suspect vehicle was identified. This file is still under investigation.

Excessive Speeding:

While conducting patrols on Highway 37, on October 18th, 2022, a Kitimat RCMP officer located a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was found to be travelling at 149 km/h in the posted 100 km/h zone. The driver was issued a violation ticket for excessive speed and the vehicle was impounded.

Wellbeing check:

On October 18th, 2022, the Kitimat RCMP received a check well being report. It was reported that an out of town family member was unable to reach another family member by phone, and they had a recent medical procedure, causing concern. It was also mentioned that several other people were attempted to be called, but they would not answer either. Unknown to the Complainant, a large portion of the Northwest was undergoing an internet and cellphone outage. The responding police officer was able to get a cellular signal just long enough to allow the two family members to have a brief conversation with each other.

Theft Under $5000:

The Kitimat RCMP were advised of a theft from a business located in the 100 block of City Center, Kitimat BC on October 19th, 2022. The suspect was identified, located and arrested while patrols were being made. The suspect was released on an Undertaking to attend court on a future date and with conditions not to attend the business.
