Officers Walk for Truth and Reconciliation

On September 30th, 2022 Creston RCMP officers had the honour to attend at the Yaqan Nukiy’s (Lower Kootenay Band) Walk for Truth and Reconciliation.

Officers Brett Urano, Dinnon McMillan, Dave Bickle, and Christopher Hunt provided traffic control of the participants and walked with the participants. The walk was approximately 4km from the Yaqan Nukiy Elementary School down Highway 21 in the Creston area and back.

Officers were told the stories of local residential school survivors. They were invested share a meal with the group after the walk.

Creston’s newest member Cst. Hunt stated, I was honoured to be a part of such an event. It was a great opportunity to learn more about the Yaqan Nukiy People and their history. The stories that were shared really moved me.

Creston RCMP would like to thank the Yaqan Nukiy People for their warm welcome and this great honour in remembering these Truths. Creston RCMP are always striving enhance community relationships with and goal of Reconciliation.
