Impaired driving prevention

August 25, 2022 at 2:18 am Kitimat RCMP were notified by a local establishment that a man was attempting to leave the premises in his vehicle while impaired by alcohol. Police attended and located the man still present while someone else held on to his vehicle keys. The man showed several signs of impairment and was cautioned of the dangers of impaired driving and being able to care for himself, left safely in a taxi cab. Kitimat RCMP urges the public to help stop impaired driving before it happens, we all play a role in keeping our streets safe.

Two separated impaired drivers were located later in the day resulting in vehicle impoundment as well as driving prohibitions.

Roommate dispute

August 26, 2022 at 11:41 pm Kitimat RCMP responded to a call involving threats made between roommates. Police attended and arrested one of the intoxicated men for mischief, where was held in police custody. The roommates were not supportive of charges and had no further safety concerns so the man was released without charge.

Drinking disturbances

August 27, 2022 at 7:02 pm a local Kitimat resident out walking their dog reported a group of intoxicated females drinking in a public area, noting that the females were yelling as they walked by. Kitimat RCMP officers attended and located two females drinking alcohol, however a third female was also present and sober. Police transported all three females to the sober females residence after all garbage was tidied up.

Kitimat RCMP would like to remind the community and those who may visit that both drinking in public and being intoxicated in public can result in violation tickets or criminal charges dependent on circumstances.

Bear call

On August 28th at 9:50 pm the Kitimat RCMP responded to a bear complaint on Osprey St. Upon attendance garbage was observed scattered on the front steps of the residence. The bear was seen walking away from the area. BC Conservation Officer Service was advised.

Driving complaint

On August 29th at 7:07 pm the Kitimat RCMP received a complaint of a possible impaired driver on Haisla Blvd. The complainant followed the vehicle to Highway 37. An officer conducted patrols but the vehicle could not be located. The complainant was advised.

Impaired driver

On August 30th at 11:15 pm an officer patrolling in the service centre observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed toward the Haisla Bridge. With the assistance of another officer the vehicle was stopped in the construction zone. The driver displayed symptomology of impairment and an approved screening device demand was read. The driver blew a fail twice. The driver was issued a 90-day driving prohibition and a 30-day vehicle impound.

Check wellbeing

On August 31st 2022 an employer called the Kitimat RCMP to conduct a check well-being of an employee that had not showed up for work. An officer attended the residence of the employee and ensured his wellbeing. The complainant was subsequently updated.
